Summerjam is Europe's biggest reggaefestival with over 30.000 visitors and more
than 60 big artists and sounds. Its held in Cologne, Germany and the german international sound Sentinel (Now existing of only Nadia and Elmar) that's always on the festivals lineup, has dropped a reggaetape which all artists will be live at the festival too. For the opening nights its an All White clothing party - and the first 30 people who comes in all white dressed gets 50% discount at the door. Shaka Loveless, son of the blues singer James Loveless, is a familiar face on the danish music scene in Copenhagen, but its first latelty that he's gone in for a solo career. He's been a member of the urban group called Gypsis that warmed up for The Roots (US) back in 2004, later for Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean in 2005, and dropped their first album in 2007. Today Shaka Loveless is mainly party of the electropop-duo D.A.N.C.E but as a solo artist he's inspired by reggae and you can clearly hear that it works out very well on his latest single "Tomgang" that you can hear below. The tune has currently reached #10 on the Danish single Chart and I personally love its strong and real content, shortly its about a person who loses his best friend to the changes cocaine and other drugs can do ["Men du blev sneblind i snevejr, kæmper mot demoner, jeg vil ha min ven igen, jeg vil ha mig selv igen. Vi to var som en, stærkere end sten, men li' som man kan sprænge et bjerg, kan sne få en hver i fordærv"]. While its still a positive, heartful vibe over the tune itself, the video and lyrics together is like art and Im looking really forward to hear more of Shaka Loveless' solo material!

Norrisman, the Jamaican internationally known reggaesinger has been spending some time in Sweden in 2011-2012 where he got in touch with his friend Advance, artist and nephew of Bounty Killer, who introduced him for the swedish label and production team Nordic Steel consisting of the three members Henrik "Spitfiyah" Persson, Jens "Jatrix" Landegren and Iman "Russ" Esmaeilpour. From recording a just a contribution to Nordic Steels "Blinded Riddim", they started to form a complete album together called Modern Roots.
Modern Roots is an album that contains different musical styles, from roots to dancehall to hip hop.
All in a mix that keeps it interesting throughout the listen. You will hear Norrisman with a new sound you havent heard before. The lyrics are intelligently put together with deep Rastafarian messages. With this project Jamaica and Sweden has teamed up to create something new and different.

Nico D is the voice from Norway's reggaescene. I have no need to write his bio, you can find his info on this site that we've posted earlier. Although he is a veteran in both the hiphop and reggae scene, his first album as a solo artist "Coming In From The Cold" dropped in february this year and was a 100% completed and sonically successfull album, with Nico D's super voice and meaningful lyrics. A tune that has gone viral and bus' big on the radiostations are "Soul Seaching" and you can watch its official video below.
It is a Nasty Kutt production and not really a reggaeriddim, but the message is real and the tune is an icing on the cake and completes the album in its whole.

Another Nico D tune I recommend you to check out is the "Ganja"-tune on the french Supersonic production riddim 911 Riddim, which had its official riddim release in april, altho the tune is already well-known for some of us local fans(big tune!). Since our first post about the two cousins Sanjin & Youthman in 2010, I've been excitingly keeping an eye on these Bosnian/swedish fellas. Their first official single Running This Town (2011) made "Balkan Dancehall" a new word on people's tongues and now they're out with the Sanjin & Youthman - Balkan Dancehall EP.
They have managed to combine the language and the culture of their Bosnian background with patois lyrics and jamaican rhythm styles, which is not far away from the pattern of the bosnian rhythms either.

Over the years RubA'Dub Sundays has brought local and international artists and bands to the venue in Stengade and is the reggaepioneer who really introduced the danish people for reggaemusic.
In these ten years the music has gone from being a small jamaican genre with a small and only specially-interested crowd - to a danish mainstream genre with the house packed each and every sunday. (Except a year break because of the authorities).
I have much love for RubaDub Sundays and altho I dont even live in Denmark, I've been going there plenty of times just to not miss these epic, friendly and fun nights with always quality music from the speakers and a real good vibe! If you haven't been there yet its really time to check it out!

On April 24th, 2012, Busy Signal will release his 4rd studio album called "Reggae Music Again" which is a strictly reggae 17-track album by VP Records and Groove Attack. The album has been available online since the 10th and I have not yet heard about a single listener who is unpleased with this album!
With most of the radio stations in Jamaica not playing reggae music, this is consider to be a brave movement by Busy.
“Being a Jamaican, I feel like it is my duty to highlight and contribute to reggaemusic, and with the encouragement of my management and musicians who played on this record, it all came together. This album is like a renaissance for me, a rebirth - reggae style” states Busy.
All of the album's 17 tracks celebrates the uplifting spirit while inspired by subjects as freedom, slavery, love, violence, skin bleaching and portraying the grittier side of Jamaica. In addition to the album, VP Records will release a vinyl entitled "Reggae music Dubb'n Again" which will be an exlusive LP including dub mixes for six of the album's songs. Busy Signal's been somewhat absent from the dancehall scene in the recents months, and he still will, according to his manager Shane Brown, to continue working and touring with 'Reggae music again' for a while.
With already known hits like Beres Hammond's classic Tempted to Touch, You Never Know, Night Shift, Run Weh and Comfort Zone, the album will also give you new favorites. It does not have one bad track on the entire album and is amongst some said to be the album of the century for Jamaican music.

Denmark has got its first "official" gay-friendly bar with no other name than Ruba'Cock. The club promotes anti-homopobia and wants to create a space and make a hype for gay people. If you find it cool or not, its premiere is this upcoming thursday the 12th april. DJ Decastro and DJ Lexis plays at Jolene Bar in Kødbyen (Flæsketorvet 81-85). The eventmakers say they will play everything from roots to hardcore dancehall, and dont censor any artist but will not play tunes who promotes crime against gay people.

The weekend 6-8 april is ska-lovers unite! Copenhagen Ska Convention has taken place each easter sine 2001 and they started up as the first ska festival in Scandinavia and northern europe. National and international artists and tones come nice up Copenhagen city with some of the finest ska rhythms and tones, which also was the pilar to the whole reggaemusic genre.
Final lineup to be released soon - four bands + djs every night! Ticket prices will be 60 DKK pr night, doors open at 21. Venue: LOPPEN, Christiania. More info.
